WHY SWIM THE BREASTBREAST?

Before3 MISTAKES TO AVOID IN BREASTFEEDING

Getting better also means correcting bad habits. Here are 3 mistakes to avoid for a successful breaststroke .

Swimming with your head above water:

The breaststroke , the real one, is swimming with your head underwater. At least during casting and sliding. We’ll let you catch your breath anyway.

Swimming with your head still above water should be avoided for several good reasons. First, to respect the alignment of the head and the body. When casting, the head should be slightly tucked in. Without exagerating. Don’t press your chin to your chest. This hydrodynamic position allows you to slide well under water and to be faster.

Swim the head raised, it is also an excellent way to cause pain in the cervical and lumbar. So we avoid with lifeguard training.

 Neglecting the arms:

I told you, in breaststroke , it is the propulsion with the legs that matters most. It’s always true. But, that’s not a good excuse to neglect the arms. To be well done, and to pace the swim , the arm movements must be done in a rhythmic, dynamic and uniform way. After the pull, and at the time of the push, the arms do not remain glued to the chest and quickly move forward so as not to slow down the stroke with lifeguard training.

Not coordinating your movements:

In breaststroke, the coordination of movements is not so obvious. Even for more experienced swimmers . A common technical mistake is to start the propulsion with the legs, even before having finished the one with the arms. To improve propulsion, the movements of the upper and lower limbs must be carried out distinctly. We push first with the arms, before pushing with the legs.

The number to remember: 5. This is approximately the number of movements, arms and legs, of a very good swimmer to complete a length of 25 meters in breaststroke .

SOME EDUCATION TO IMPROVE YOUR BREASTBREAST

To perfect, a little more, his technique , we focus on some educational . With or without equipment.

We start with an exercise , useful to improve your breaststroke scissors . The idea is to work on the orientation of the feet. Reminder: in breaststroke , the feet must always be turned outward when propelling.

To achieve this educational, position yourself on your back, head in hyperextension, feet on the surface of the water. It is more convenient to see the movement. And correct it more easily. Once positioned, we fold the legs to approach the heels of the buttocks, keeping the toes outwards. First, we perform this movement slowly. And once the orientation of the feet acquired, we accelerate. The movement is done in two stages: we position the tiptoes, we bend the legs.

When you are comfortable, you tilt on your stomach to perform the exercise , over a short swimming distance . The heels must be on the surface of the water. You can use a fry, placed under the abdominal belt.

Another good tip for better to swim the breaststroke is to do some education with equipment: board , pads , pull buoy , etc. They are very practical for targeted exercises .

With a board , to perfect the movement of the legs. On your stomach, arms outstretched and hands resting on the board. We do a few lengths, without using the arms, to focus only on the breaststroke scissor . Thus, we work on the propulsion with the legs, and the symmetry of the movement.

With pads and a pull buoy , to work on arm movements. Plate let sin the hands, pull buoy wedged between the legs, we swim only with the arms. The palms of the hands always positioned outwards to push as much as possible. You can also do this exercise without pads , of course.

The ideal is to carry out these educational exercises in pairs. We take turns observing each other to help correct their movements. I told you, swimming is not just a solitary sport. 😉

I hope I have convinced you of the virtues of breaststroke . And making you want to perfect your technique . Go, to the water! It’s time to rehabilitate his breaststroke !
