The Art of Keeping Your Work Desk Organised

A4 photocopy paper

Whether you are working from home or office, you would need stationery for all the important and miscellaneous tasks. The problem arises when there is too much stationery and your desk starts looking disorganized and clumsy. It might somewhere impact your concentration and productivity also.

Without further ado, let’s look at some of the ways to keep your work desk organised.

Step #1

Take out all your stationery including A4 punched pockets, pen holders, markers, everything and lay them in front of you. This will help you in figuring out which things are worth keeping and which should be discarded.

Step #2

After you have kept only the important stuff, segregate them further on the basis of things that are used many times a day, many times a week, once in a few weeks, or rarely. There could be some items that are not at all used.

Step #3

Now is the time to look for desk organizers. You can start with pen holders and files to keep A4 photocopy paper, brochures, ruled sheets, and other materials. Keeping everything neatly will give you more space on the table to freely work, and the place will look organised.

Step #4

You need to segregate stuff according to their usage. Things that are used multiple times every day, such as pens, glue stick etc. should be on the table and at a handy place. You can also keep these things in the top drawer. Anything that is used once a week can be kept in lower desk drawers.

Everything else that is used rarely should go to stationery cupboard.

Organizing your stationery cupboard

Step #1

Similar to the first step of organizing desk, you have to take out everything and segregate accordingly.

Step #2

Pens, pads, papers, cartridges, and other items that are used daily must be separated from the rest.

Step #3

All the highly used items should be put in shelves that are accessible to all. Keep cleaning items in the lowest shelve or not at all in the cupboard. Ideally, these should be on the floor.

Step #4

Label the shelves so that anybody who opens the cupboard knows where they will find the right thing.
